What does 2010 hold for gamers?

What a year it has been for gamers all over the world. 2009 saw major hits like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 deliver what was promised. Batman Arkham Asylum and Borderlands came under the radar of most, and surprised a lot of people. Professor Layton puzzled his way into becoming one of the most popular games on the DS, and World of Warcraft claimed even more souls and remained the most played online MMORPG throughout the year.
So what does 2010 have in store for us?
The long awaited release of Final Fantasy XIII has been confirmed for March. The long running RPG series has seen several stellar instalments, and many reckon that the thirteenth release will be the best so far. It will also mark the first time that Square Enix has worked with HD for the series. Going by first impressions, the game is going to look amazing and play brilliantly.
Being released later this month is the hotly anticipated Mass Effect 2. The sci-fi adventure lets you return as Commander Shepard, as you once again embark on a quest across the galaxy. Another sequel set to be released is 2K Games’ Bioshock 2, set back in Rapture, the sequel is meant to lead on from where its predecessor finished and is set for a February release.
The DS will be hosting some of the more peculiar titles this year, one of which is Sushi Go Round. Although it is already available as a flash game online, it has been renovated with new features and graphics. If that wasn’t barmy enough for you then what about Chicken Blaster (oh lord). To be frank it’s exactly what it says on the tin.
If you’re a serious gamer looking for some kicks from your DS, then what about the latest in the Pokemon series. Pokemon HeartGold see’s you return to catch more of the critters we all grew up with. Sonic is also set to make another appearance on the DS with Sonic and Sega All Star Racing. The speedy hedgehog and crew will be hoping to offer a real alternative to Mario Kart DS. RPG fans should me catered for with Phantasy Star also making its debut on the DS with Phantasy Star Zero.
The PSP will be seeing the return of Snake with Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. Konami’s David Daniel’s was able to confirm the release: "Kojima Productions has pushed the limits of the PSP system and we cannot wait to unveil their latest addition to the Metal Gear franchise to gamers this coming May." The PSP will also host the sequel to the mediocre Army of Two with Army of Two: The 40th hour.
These are only a few of the releases coming up this year. Even if none of the above take your fancy there are going to be plenty of other games to wet your appetite. How about Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Conviction? Or maybe you’re partial to a bit of Dead Rising 2? Whatever your poison is, 2010 is going to be a great year for gaming.

Great debut, I'm looking forward to FFXIII especially. Apparently it's structure and plot is flawed, but still looks and feels fantastic. Will be investing in my own PS3 then!
Yeah, but I'm approaching FF titles with a very long, skeptical eye these days. Last time I played I spent half the time junctioning my summoning crystals to the path of destiny for each character. Bleah! What a load of bookkeeping.
